MEXICO BEACH, FLA. 10 OCTOBER 2019: “I said a year ago I had no earthly idea what would happen in the 12 months that have just passed but I did know the people of this community would not settle for anything less than what we had,” Mayor Al Cathey said.at the one year anniversary celebration held at Mango Marley's food truck.   “We can sit here and talk about what we had and lost. I think it’s more important we talk about what we will have again and that is basically because of all of you.”<br />
The celebration, which drew 500 people, was held on the anniversary date that the category 5 Hurricane Michael made landfall here October 10, 2018..  The Gulf front town of Mexico Beach was leveled when the category 5 hurricane made landfall here and started the the 77 mile path of destruction through the panhandle to the Georgia state line.
